Week 2

Rule Breakers
Rules, what are rules? Rules are there to keep us in order and bring peace but there are some rules that bring misfortune and tyranny. But rules also Doesn't just come from the government. There are rules about tradition, how we live our lives.
These are some pictures that show the people in history who broke the rules.

The picture no your right is NELSON MANDELA. He Broke the rule of apartheid. The basic meaning of apartheid is "racial segregation". Nelson Mandela fight against apartied in South Africa. Despite all the challenges that he face. he rose to victory and set his people free from this rule. Which bring equality and fairness to his country.
The picture on your right is called Antigone. In Greek mythology, the story goes that, Antigone's brother had died in  battle for the throne. She wants to buried his brother but the king of Thebes forbids this action. It is punishable by death if she ignore it.  Antigone feels that this is unmoral and unjust and despite the consequences, she does it anyway. Then she was discovered by the kings guard and was punish for her action. After being walled up, she decided to hang herself. Sad isn't it.

The movie High School Musical, has an invisible rule that there is segregation among students. but with some courage from one student the status quote was broken and make school live more friendly and fun.

Foot binding is a tradition in imperial china history during the tang dynasty (10th or 11th century). It's a process, which make Chinese women feet smaller and was perceive by them as highly attractive. Foot binding is a painful process which start as young as 4-7yrs old. Foot binding  began to died out during the 20th century and through anti-foot binding campaign.  Foot binding causes lifelong disabilities and I'm glad that it died out.

Steve Jobs was a great innovator. he broke the rules of  limitation of technology. He design something that is helpful to human kind and that he change the world. The tech that he design would have been  a fantasy in the 20th century but he dare to challenge himself and succeeded.

Japanese culture have change drastically throughout it's history. When japan was isolated from the world, their culture and tradition can be seen clearly and they are very proud of it. when the black ship came and open their doors to the world. There were some who are scare of change that their culture would disappeared. But slowly as time passes and coming to the 20th and 21th century they created their own hybrid culture fusing Asia, Europe and north America cultures. In terms they are breaking free from their tradition.

All and all, to me this are some great rule breakers.
